Serious Drought in California, USA

California is facing one of the most severe droughts on record. The state officials take all necessary actions to prepare for water shortage. The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) today announced two new rebate programs to help Californians replace inefficient toilets and tear out water-guzzling lawns, further conserving water during the state’s historic drought.

The word "droughtproof" carries a lot of weight in California. That snowpack in the Sierra Nevada MacLaggan's talking about is still less than half of what it should be for this time of year. Farmers, environmentalists and cities like nearby San Diego have been fighting over what little water there is.

Prepared by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), the model ordinance effectively limits lawn in commercial settings to specific functional uses such as recreation and public assembly, requires efficient sprinkler nozzles in landscape irrigation systems and, with few exceptions, bans turf in street medians and parkways.

Artificial turf is no watering, ideal choice for street medians and parkways where water is limited. And artificial turf is no need for pesticides and mowing. People can save a lot of energy as well as cost. It looks like natural grass, and it’s green throughout the year, no more yellow patches on your lawn and no more weeds staring back at you!
